About the speaker
I’ve lived in Cardiff’s diverse inner-city community of Riverside for the past 20 years. In 1998 I founded the award-winning Riverside Farmers Market – which has since spawned three other successful farmers’ markets in Cardiff – and the Riverside Community Garden. I’m a founding director of the Riverside Market Garden, a small organic vegetable growing project 10 miles from Cardiff, and received an Inspire Wales Awards in 2010 as well as being shortlisted for a Leading Wales Award in 2012. I’m currently working with women’s organisations in Sub Saharan Africa to help them create local food production/marketing cooperatives. In the other part of my life, I’m a songwriter/performer and a poet, and my writing covers some ‘big issues’ from global warming to relationships with a humorous touch, aiming to entertain and intrigue. I’m a strong advocate for gender equality and founded ‘FeMANism’ to help men realise that combating sexism will bring benefits to them, not just to women
