About the speaker
John Edwards is the UK Information Commissioner. He first appeared in UK headlines when he described Facebook as ‘morally bankrupt’ after the 2019 Christchurch terrorist attack. He was then New Zealand Privacy Commissioner, and moved to be the UK Information Commissioner in January 2022. Since then, he has called for changes to how police treat rape survivors, called for MPs to change how they use WhatsApp to discuss government policy, and fined TikTok £12.7m for misusing children’s data. He’s keen that people come away from his talk realising their personal information is more important than they may have thought previously.
