About Mohammad Al-Amri
Mohammad is a researcher at Cardiff University. He holds a PhD in Rehabilitation Engineering from University of Surrey and B.Sc in Electronic Engineering from Yarmouk University. Mohammad has develop the Surrey Virtual Rehabilitation System from basic components including software development and an Augmented Real-time Treadmill Speed Control Algorithm, which is considered appropriate for gait rehabilitation protocols. This was the first demonstration of the transformation of virtual reality-based rehabilitation from laboratory research into a rehabilitation clinic. Mohammad’s research includes much work on clinical applications of virtual reality and technology to help in understanding human movement and gait applied to musculoskeletal, neurological, and neurodegenerative conditions as well as brain injury. In his research he is exploring the feasibility of using the latest movement analysis affordable technologies combined with purposely developed real-time biofeedback to advance healthcare. This involves development of a novel application based on using combined motor-cognitive tasks to detect subtle impairments in patients following brain injury and to develop physical-biomarkers of cognitive decline. Mohammad is a member of the Dementias Research Network, and a co-founder of the Traumatic Brain Injury clinical research group within Cardiff University. He is the Chair of Membership & Nominations of the International Society for Virtual Rehabilitation and a member of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM)’s Academic Advisory Group.
